FERC invites new licensees to review terms, conditions

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has begun a new practice to facilitate communications between hydropower project licensees, FERC licensing staff, and FERC compliance staff.

FERC plans to send a notice to each project owner when a license is issued, inviting the licensee to meet with staff to discuss terms and conditions of the license.

FERC issued the first letter Sept. 18, inviting Grand River Dam Authority to a meeting to discuss its relicense order for 108-MW Markham Ferry (No. 2183).

As you prepare to operate under your new license, it is important to have a clear understanding of its requirements, Joseph Morgan, director of the Office of Energy Projects’ Division of Hydropower Administration and Compliance, wrote. Office of Energy Projects staff would like to set up a meeting with you to discuss the new license requirements. The goal of the meeting would be to clarify any issues regarding your new license.

Project owners who received licenses before FERC instituted the new practice can request a meeting by calling Hossein Ildari, deputy director, Division of Hydropower Administration and Compliance, Office of Energy Projects, (1) 202-502-8829.
