Burkina Faso seeks studies of three small hydropower projects

The government of Burkina Faso invites expressions of interest from consultants to perform feasibility studies and detailed design of three small hydropower projects in Burkina Faso. Responses are due July 13.

The government last year recruited consultants to study the level of siltation and availability of water resources at the 16-MW Bagre Dam hydropower project. Burkina Faso is a member of the Volta Basin Authority that last year recruited firms to review and recommend a hydrological management system for the six-nation Volta Basin of Africa.

Burkina Faso’s mines and energy ministry, Ministere des Mines et de l’Energie, now invites expressions of interest to perform feasibility studies, detailed design and drafting of terms of reference for development of the 10.8-MW Folonzo, 5-MW Gongourou and 5.1-MW Bontioli small hydropower projects. The ministry has declared the three projects, plus the 7.8-MW Bon hydropower project, to be renewable energy priorities.
