Richard (Rick) Spinrad is president of the Marine Technology Society and a professor at Oregon State University

MTS is an international community of ocean scientists and engineers, practitioners, policy makers and educators.

Spinrad is professor of oceanography and senior adviser to the vice president of research at OSU. His responsibilities include a focus on funding for the OSU/CEOAS Pacific Marine Energy Center – South Energy Test Site wave energy project. He is also a member of The Ocean Cleanup science advisory board.

Spinrad formerly was chief scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

He spoke during a session in the Marine Energy Symposium at HydroVision International 2019, on the topic of How Marine Renewables Fit into the Blue Economy.
