ABB supplies controls to Venezuela’s 10,300-MW Raul Leoni

Utility CVG Electrificacion del Caroni (Edelca) has commissioned ABB to install protection and control systems at the 10,300-MW Raul Leoni (Guri) hydroelectric project on Venezuela’s Caroni River.

Under a US$26 million contract, ABB is to provide installation and training in several phases, beginning in 2007. ABB said it is carrying out the work through a consortium of offices in Venezuela, Canada, and Switzerland.

Raul Leoni has two powerhouses of 10 turbines each, which are being modernized at a rate of two per year.
