ABB to supply Austria’s 450-MW Kopswerk 2

Austrian utility Vorarlberger Illwerke AG awarded a contract to ABB AG of Austria to supply three sets of excitation equipment for the 450-MW Kopswerk 2 pumped-storage project.

ABB is to manufacture, supply, assemble, and start up the three equipment sets for the project, which is being built on Austria’s Ill River.

Illwerke is developing the 300 million euro (US$318 million) project jointly with German utility EnBW AG in Vorarlberg State, adjoining the conventional 247-MW Kopswerk 1 hydro project near Partenen.
