Abstracts invited for ICOLD safety symposium

Organizers of the 75th Annual Meeting of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) invite papers for a related symposium, Safety Management of Large Dams.

Abstracts are due October 1 for the June 28, 2007, symposium, being held in conjunction with the ICOLD annual meeting, June 24-29, 2007, at Pribaltiiskaya Hotel in St. Petersburg.

Main themes of the symposium include: methods of risk analysis and risk assessment; safety criteria; monitoring and information-diagnostics systems; and legislative and methodological framework of dam safety management. The symposium also includes a seminar on relations among the state, owner, and the public in construction of large dams.

Authors should submit, in English, abstracts of a maximum 300 words to the Organizing Committee before October 1. Selected authors are to be notified before October 31, with final papers to be submitted by February 1, 2007.

RusCOLD plays host to ICOLD Annual Meeting

The Russian National Committee on Large Dams (RusCOLD) is the host organization for the ICOLD 75th Annual Meeting. During the meeting, the work of technical committees will be scheduled to discuss aspects of construction and operation of large dams and other hydraulic structures.

The annual meeting also includes technical exhibitions and tours of some of the world’s largest dams.

More than 1,300 participants from 75 countries met in Barcelona, Spain, in June 2006 for ICOLD’s 74th Annual Meeting, held in conjunction with the organization’s 22nd triennial Congress.
