Afghanistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water plans to seek bids for rehabilitation of transmission switchyards of three hydroelectric projects as well as other work under the Afghanistan Power System Development Project.
Afghanistan has applied for a US$60 million grant from the World Bank’s International Development Association for the power system program.
The proposed work is to include rehabilitation of transmission switchyards associated with the 100-MW Naghlu, 66-MW Mahipar, and 22-MW Sarobi (or Saroubi) hydroelectric projects on the Kabul River. (HNN 11/6/06)
Other work is to include distribution system rehabilitation at Aybak, Mazar-e-Sharif, Pul-e-Khumari, Charikar, Doshi, Gulbahar, and Jabal-es-Saraj, as well as capacity building and project management support.

Afghanistan seeks water resources planning assistance
In a separate solicitation, the Ministry of Energy and Water plans to seek bids for consultants to assist in water resources planning and investment under the Afghanistan Water Resources Development Technical Assistance Project. The government has applied for a US$6 million grant for that program.
Proposed work is to include capacity building for multi-sectoral water resources planning, and preparation of water resources development investments. The ministry said there would be several consultancies to carry out surveys, investments, and feasibility studies on different river basins.
