Albania names consultant to study rivers’ hydropower potential

Albanian Power Corp. (KESH) has named a French consulting firm to study hydropower generating potential of selected rivers.

KESH named Sogreah Consultants SAS of France to prepare an analysis of hydropower generation potential on selected rivers, including project definitions and pre-feasibility studies of a number of potential projects. The work is to be performed over five months.

Sogreah was chosen from among five companies with a bid of 343,310 euros (US$439,618). (HNN 10/5/07)

KESH received a grant under the Policy and Human Resources Development fund from the Japanese government for a World Bank program on dam safety that incorporates the hydropower study. A World Bank official previously said energy-short Albania still has undeveloped hydro potential and that the government must move quickly to implement a concession law to attract more foreign direct investment in thermal and hydro generation.
