Albania seeks tender help for Drin, Mat rivers dam safety

Albanian Power Corp. (KESH) invites expressions of interest for tendering assistance to implement dam safety work at hydropower projects on Albania’s Drin and Mat rivers. Responses are due April 15.

With funding from the World Bank’s International Development Association, KESH seeks consultants to help with procurement, design, and supervision of implementing Albania’s dam safety program. The program includes physical infrastructure investments of very high, high, and medium priority at hydropower plants on the Drin and Mat River cascades, plus operational improvements.

Currently, three hydropower stations on the Drin supply 95 percent of Albania’s power, with an installed capacity of 1,450 MW. Austria’s EVN and Verbund signed a concession agreement in 2008 to build the 48-MW Ashta hydropower plant on the Drin.

The consultant is to prepare bidding documents, organize bidding, manage contracts, supervise work, and train KESH personnel. Work is to begin before September and be complete before December 2013.

Expressions of interest and qualifications, in paper or electronic format, are due by April 15 to the address below. Responses must be labeled “Expression of Interest for Consultancy Services in Dam Safety Project Implementation.”
