ASDSO awards Mark W. Pabst its 2015 National Award of Merit

In recognition of his many years of contributions to presentations and workshops, authored papers and design manuals, and his involvement in geotechnical issues, the Association of State Dam Safety Officials has recognized Mark W. Pabst with its 2015 National Award of Merit.

ASDSO’s National Award of Merit honors an individual or entity contributing to dam safety on a national level. This is the organization’s most prestigious award and the ASDSO Board of Directors chooses the recipient.

Pabst has authored 21 technical papers and made numerous presentations on geotechnical engineering, risk analysis and dam safety.

According to ASDSO, Pabst has more than 35 years of experience in geotechnical engineering. He is a senior technical specialist at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Risk Management Center in Lakewood, Colo. involved in the review, training, research, and implementation of geotechnical issues related to Corps dam safety programs.

“Prior to joining the USACE, he served 24 years with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, in the soils lab and then in the Geotechnical Engineering Group,” said ASDSO in a press release. “In that position he was responsible for safety of dams investigations, analysis, design, construction review, and refill monitoring, as well as feasibility design of several large dams.”

Pabst is also a contributing author on several interagency manuals addressing the use of filters and drains in embankment dams as well as a number of USACE and Reclamation design manuals.

ASDSO is a national non-profit organization of state and federal dam safety regulators, dam owners and operators, engineering consultants, manufacturers and suppliers, academia, contractors and others interested in dams safety.
