Austria generator seeks storage pump for 50-MW Koralpe

Karntner Elektrizitats AG (Kelag) invites applications for pre-qualification to supply a pump and other equipment to enable pumped-storage operation at the 50-MW Koralpe hydroelectric project on Austria’s Drau River. Responses are due July 16.

The estimated 20 million euro (US$26.8 million) investment includes: Lot 1, a storage pump; Lot 2, a globe valve; and Lot 3, a three-phase alternating current synchronous motor. Firms may compete for one or more lots.

Kelag said addition of the pump-back feature will enable Koralpe to double its annual generation to 163 million kWh from 83 million kWh. The work is to be carried out between December 2007 and October 2010.

Pre-qualification documents may be obtained from the address below. Applications for pre-qualification, in German, are due by 2 p.m. July 16. Kelag expects to invite bids from pre-qualified firms about August 2.
