Austria utility awards hydro simulator contract for Danube system

Verbund Austrian Hydro Power AG has awarded a contract for supply of a hydropower station simulator to simulate Verbund hydro projects on Austria’s Danube River.

Verbund awarded the contract to Poyry Energy GmH of Austria as a result of a solicitation issued in 2006. (HNN 7/21/06)

Poyry Energy is to develop a “virtual power station” that is able to copy the operation of Verbund’s Danube power stations as close to reality as possible. The simulator is to be used for training of operating personnel, investigation of reservoir behavior, and testing of regulation mechanisms.

Planning, execution, supply, start-up, and documentation of the simulator is to take 24 months.
