Austria utility seeks partner to develop 300-MW Pfaffenboden

Vienna utility Wien Energie GmbH seeks expressions of interest from potential partners to develop the 300-MW Pfaffenboden pumped-storage project in Austria. Responses are due December 17.

Wien Energie took bids in November for hydraulic steel, earthworks, and a turbine-generator for expansion of the 9.58-MW Opponitz project on Austria’s Ybbs River.

The utility now plans to develop the Pfaffenboden pumped-storage project at the gravel pit of a former limestone plant at Molln, Austria. It seeks participants in the project who would share construction costs and risks for up to a 49 percent share of the hydro project’s energy storage rights.
