BC Hydro sets meetings on Standing Offer Program

BC Hydro has scheduled regional information sessions for developers planning to apply for the utility’s Standing Offer Program to develop clean or renewable electricity sources, including small hydro.

Sessions are planned June 18 in Nanaimo and July 10 in Terrace. Presentation materials from a similar session held in Vancouver in May are available on BC Hydro’s Internet site, www.bchydro.com.

BC Hydro formally launched the Standing Offer Program in April, inviting clean or renewable power projects of up to 10 MW, including hydropower, to sell to BC Hydro at a fixed price with standard contract terms and conditions. (HNN 4/15/08)

The Standing Offer Program is expected to complement planned calls for power from larger projects. In 2006, BC Hydro reached power purchase agreements with 38 projects offering 1,400 MW, including 29 hydro plants. The utility also plans to issue a “clean” call for power in 2008 seeking clean energy sources including hydropower.

The utility has established a page on the Standing Offer Program on the site www.bchydro.com/info/ipp/ipp51323.html?WT.mc_id=rd_standingoffer. Instructions for registering for a session, and other program information, are available at the site.
