SAVANNAH, Ga., U.S. 11/10/11 (PennWell) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has extended the deadline for bids for installation of main circuit breakers and a static frequency converter system and replacement of excitation systems at the 600-MW Richard B. Russell hydroelectric project on the Savannah River in Georgia. Bids now are due Dec. 1.
The Corps’ Savannah District originally called for bids by Nov. 7. The Corps took bids in 2010 to design a plan to correct vibration of pump-turbine generating Units 5 and 6 at Russell.
The latest work is to include replacement of the main unit breakers for Units 1-8 with government-furnished SF6 15-kV breakers, replacement of static excitation systems for Units 5-8 with government furnished systems, and installation of a government-furnished static frequency converter system.
