Brazil approves transfer of 13 hydro projects

Electricity regulator Agencia Nacional de Energia Eletrica (ANEEL) announced approval in February of the acquisition of the operators of 13 hydroelectric projects by PCH Participacoes S/A of Brazil.

ANEEL said the 13 projects, totaling 288 MW, are located in Espirito Santo, Goias, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro states.

PCH Participacoes acquired from Eletroriver S/A: 27-MW Sao Simao, 27-MW Sao Pedro, and 21-MW Alfredo Chaves, all in Espirito Santo; 22.5-MW Funil and 15-MW Carangola in Minas Gerais; 4.5-MW Fumaca 4 in Espirito Santo and Minas Gerais; and 19-MW Calheiros in Espirito Santo and Rio de Janeiro.

PCH Participacoes acquired from Araguaia Centrais Eletricas S/A: 30-MW Irara, 30-MW Jatai, and 18-MW Retiro Velho, all in Goais.

PCH Participacoes acquired from BSB Energetica S/A: 30-MW Santa Fe 1, 19-MW Bonafante, and 25-MW Monte Serrat, all in Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.

All the hydro plant operators are classified as independent power producers that can sell electricity in the non-regulated market. All are qualified under the national incentive program for alternative power producers, Programa de Incentivo as Fontes Alternativas de Energia Eletrica (Proinfa).
