Brookfield unit plans to add 10.6 MW to 73.2-MW Hudson River

A unit of Brookfield Power seeks federal approval to increase capacity of the 73.2-MW Hudson River hydro project by 10.6 MW by replacing a turbine runner and adding two more generating units to the project’s 28.8-MW Sherman Island development.

Erie Boulevard Hydropower L.P. outlined the plan in an application to amend its license for the New York project (No. 2482). It proposes to: replace the Unit 4 runner, increasing turbine output to match the capacity of its 7.2-MW generator; install a new 9.5-MW Unit 1 in an empty bay; and install a new 1.16-MW minimum flow Unit 6.

The changes would increase total installed capacity by 14.5 percent, and total hydraulic capacity by 2,524 cubic feet per second, or 16.4 percent.

Erie Boulevard filed the application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in June. In October it also filed a modified New York water quality certificate in support of the application.
