Bulgaria’s flood-damaged 3.2-MW Lesichovo restored

Mavel a.s. announced commissioning of the second of two units at the flood-damaged 3.2-MW Lesichovo hydropower plant in Bulgaria.

Mavel, of the Czech Republic, which commissioned the project’s first unit in January 2005, had received a contract last year to supply, install, and commission a second turbine and related equipment for the project.

However, the manufacturer’s crews were dispatched to the project immediately after flooding of August 6-7, 2005, to assess the damage. The first unit was restored to operation in the first week of November.

The new, second unit was installed in January. Like the original, the second unit includes a horizontal Francis runner, valve regulators, and a synchronous generator manufactured by Siemens. The net head is 57.8 meters, with a flow of 6.4 cubic meters per second.
