Corps names Andritz Hydro to repair unit at 422-MW Hartwell

The Corps of Engineers said it intends to award a contract to Andritz Hydro Corp. to repair the rotor rim of the Unit 5 generator at the 422-MW Hartwell hydroelectric plant.

GE Canada, which was acquired by Andritz, designed and manufactured the generator.

The Corps’ Savannah District declared its intent April 17 to award the contract to Andritz Hydro.

The Corps completed a $33 million refurbishment of Hartwell in 2007, increasing the Georgia hydropower facility’s capacity 78 MW to a total of 422 MW. (HNN 5/16/07) Four of Hartwell’s five generators were refurbished, increasing the output of each to 85.5 MW from 66 MW. The fifth generator did not require refurbishment at that time.
