Eastern Nile agency seeks project preparation including hydro

The Eastern Nile Technical Regional Office (ENTRO) invites expressions of interest from consultants to assist preparation of water investment projects in Eastern Nile countries including hydropower. Responses are due November 29.

The multi-nation ENTRO, representing Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan has been investigating power trade opportunities, interconnection, and three hydropower projects, 2,000-MW Mandaya and 1,200-MW Border in Ethiopia near the Sudan border, and 780-MW Dal 1 in Sudan near the Egypt border. (HNN 9/5/07)

Employing a grant from the French development agency, the current solicitation is to enable ENTRO to acquire expert assistance for in-depth preparation and quality assurance of various Eastern Nile projects related to climate, hydrology, power interconnection, power trade, water resources, and capacity building. The consultancy is to be employed on an as-needed basis and performed before December 31, 2010.

General consultant expertise is to include dam/hydropower/power planning, water resource modeling, economist/power trade, flood management, resource mobilization/strategic planning/institutions, environmental/natural resources/watershed management, and geology/geophysics/hydrogeology.
