Ecuador developer seeks equipment for 162.6-MW Mazar

Hydropower generator Hidropaute S.A. seeks bids by April 27 for hydro-mechanical and electrical equipment for the 162.6-MW Mazar hydroelectric project being built on Ecuador’s Paute River.

Hidropaute seeks manufacture and supply of two 81.3-MW Francis turbine-generators, valves, transformers, controls, and other equipment at an estimated cost of US$72 million. The solicitation includes supervision of factory and site work, provision of technical information, and training of personnel in operation and maintenance.

Hidropaute S.A. awarded a civil works contract in 2004 to construction companies Herdoiza Crespo of Ecuador and Impregilo of Italy. The government-owned Hidropaute operates the 1,075-MW Paute project downstream. Mazar would control water flows for Paute, which lacks a reservoir to store water during drought.

Bidding documents may be obtained from Hidropaute’s Internet site, A document fee of US$10,000 plus a 12 percent value added tax must be paid by cash or certified check to Hidropaute S.A.
