Egasa submits EIS for two hydro projects in Peru

Peruvian generator Egasa has submitted an Environmental Impact Statement to Peru’s Energy and Mines Ministry for the $1 billion Lluta and Lluclla hydroelectric project in the Arequipa region.

In 2008, the government granted Egasa a temporary concession for the 505-MW project.

The plants are Lluta I (214 MW), Lluta II (52.5 MW) and Llucclla (238 MW), according to the EIS. Construction of Lluclla is scheduled to begin in late 2011 and is expected to be completed in 2013. Construction on Lluta I and Lluta II would begin in 2012 and should be completed by the end of 2014.

Egasa also holds a temporary concession for the 302 MW Molloco hydro project in Arequipa. (HydroWorld 6/12/09) Egasa already operates the Charcani I, II, III, IV, V and VI hydro plants in Chilina and Mollendo.
