Engconsult to assess Afghan hydro program

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water has awarded a contract to Engconsult Ltd. of Canada and ECL Consultants Ltd. of Bangladesh to assess a proposed small to medium hydropower development program intended to invest in power projects for underserved and off-grid areas of Afghanistan.

The US$709,840 contract, funded by the Asian Development Bank, is to include a review of existing hydropower assessment work and preparation of a project suitable for external financing.

The consultants were selected in January based on expertise in power engineering, geological and geotechnical engineering, hydropower development, system planning, financial and economic analysis, and environmental and social assessment.
