Equipment chosen for Austria’s 16-MW Werfen/Pfarrwerfen

Verbund Austrian Hydro Power AG has named Arge VA Tech Hydro GmbH and Mitges KW Werfen to supply turbine-generators for the 16-MW Werfen/Pfarrwerfen hydroelectric project being built on Austria’s Salzach River.

Development partners Verbund and Salzburg AG had sought bids for planning, design, supply, assembly, and start up of two 8-MW Kaplan units designed for a flow of 100 cms and a head of 11.4 meters, including options for governors and an excitation system. (HNN 2/21/06)

The contract is valued at 11.27 million euros (US$14.33 million). The companies hope to begin work on the 61.5 million euro (US$74.3 million) project by the end of 2006, with completion set for 2008.
