Equipment contract awarded for Austria’s 480-MW Limberg 2

Verbund Austrian Hydro Power has awarded a contract to an Austrian firm to supply electrical distribution and control equipment for the 480-MW Limberg 2 pumped-storage project in Austria.

Verbund awarded a contract to YIT Austria GmbH to engineer, supply, assemble, and commission electrical equipment including light and power service, emergency lighting, a public address system, and structural wiring. YIT Austria was chosen from among four bidders. (HNN 4/23/08)

The hydro operator is building an underground powerhouse containing two motor-generators as part of the Glockner Kaprun scheme, near the 240-MW Kaprun project. (HNN 10/31/08) Limberg 2 is to employ the existing storage reservoirs of Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden.

Commissioning of Limberg 2’s first 240-MW unit is scheduled for autumn 2011, with full commercial operation in March 2012.
