Equipment installation sought for Afghanistan’s 42-MW Salma

India equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) seeks bids for installation and commissioning of turbine-generators and other equipment for rehabilitation and completion of Afghanistan’s 42-MW Salma Dam. Bids are due May 5.

India’s Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Ltd. awarded a contract to BHEL in 2006 to design, manufacture, supply, install, and commission three 14-MW Francis turbines with matching generators and microprocessor-based control and excitation equipment. (HNN 7/17/06) Salma is on the Hari Rud River in Herat Province, Afghanistan.

BHEL now seeks installation, testing, commissioning, and trial operation of the Salma equipment package.

Tender documents may be obtained from the BHEL Internet site, www.bhel.com, or from the address below by May 4 for a fee of 1,000 rupees (US$20) by crossed demand draft to BHEL at Noida.
