Ethiopia seeks water information system for Tana, Beles basins

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Water Resources invites expressions of interest from consultants to develop a water information system for the Tana and Beles subbasins, site of the 460-MW Beles hydroelectric project, under construction on the Beles River. Responses are due February 10.

The government received US$45 million from the World Bank for the Tana and Beles Integrated Water Resources Development Project, which is intended to develop enabling institutions and investments for integrated planning, management, and development in the Tana and Beles subbasins to accelerate sustainable growth. It previously solicited consultants by January 22 to examine the interaction of groundwater with surface water in the subbasins. (HNN 12/30/08)

The current solicitation seeks consultants to design and develop a water information system covering all water-related data, supported by an upgraded hydrological network to collect field data.

Expressions of interest and qualifications are due by 5 p.m. February 10 to Moges Ayele, Ministry of Water Resources, Contract Administration Department, Coordination Office (Room No. 209), Haile G/Selassie St., Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
