French utility plans solicitation to build 94-MW Gavet

Electricite de France (EDF) has issued advance notice that it plans to seek bids for construction of the 94-MW Gavet hydroelectric project in eastern France.

EDF said in 2005 that Gavet, proposed for the Romanche River in Isere Department, was part of a five-year investment plan. (HNN 11/23/05)

The utility said the project would include a diversion dam, ten-kilometer underground conduit, and an underground power plant with two 47-MW units utilizing flows of 41 cms and a head of 270 meters. Construction is expected to occur between 2010 and 2014.

EDF said it plans to launch a solicitation for the project in October. For information, contact Herve Mailley, Electricite de France, EDF Agence Achats Hydraulique, Savoie Technolac, F-73373 Bourget-du-Lac, France; (33) 479-606088; Fax: (33) 479-606344; E-mail:; Internet:
