French utility to seek additional unit for 96-MW Gambsheim

Electricite de France (EDF) has issued advance notice that it plans to seek bids for construction of a new generating unit for the 96-MW Gambsheim hydroelectric project on the Rhine River in France’s Alsace Province.

The utility said it plans to issue a solicitation February 16 for civil and mechanical works for a new unit at Gambsheim. Construction is expected to occur between 2010 and 2013.

Civil works are to include cofferdam, earthworks, demolition, concrete, access works, and water intake and return. The contract is to include electro-mechanical, electro-technical, and hydro-mechanical equipment including turbine, generator, transformer, controls, circuit breakers, screens, and valves.

Gambsheim is one of several projects in an ongoing EDF rehabilitation program. (HNN 4/28/08)
