German utility awards controls contracts for 153-MW Kopchenwerk

RWE Power AG has awarded contracts to Voith Siemens Hydro Kraftwerkstechnik GmbH and Alstom Power Generation AG to refurbish the command and control system of the 153-MW Kopchenwerk pumped-storage project at Herdecke, Germany.

RWE requested bids in February to supply new process instrumentation, automation, digital turbine governors, and static frequency changers for Kopchenwerk, also called Herdecke, which first went on line in 1930.

The suppliers were chosen from among five bidders for two separate contracts. Details of the contracts were not specified.
