Gracon to overhaul units at BuRec’s 12-MW Chandler

The Bureau of Reclamation awarded a $2 million contract to Gracon Construction of Loveland, Colo., to overhaul two turbines at 12-MW Chandler power plant, on Chandler Power Canal near Prosser.

Gracon will overhaul turbines and replace wear rings of Units 1 and 2.

BuRec Commissioner John Keys, who announced the award, said the improvements would ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of a facility that provides a reliable source of electricity to operate irrigation pumps.

The plant was constructed in 1956 as part of the 25-MW Yakima project.
