Greek firm orders turbine-generators for 154-MW Ilarionas

Metal Construction of Greece SA (METKA) has awarded a contract to Alstom Hydro to supply turbine-generators for the 154-MW Ilarionas hydroelectric project in Greece.

Alstom Hydro said it is to supply two 77-MW units for Ilarionas, owned by Public Power Corp. of Greece. Alstom Hydro’s Baroda, India, factory is to be in charge of manufacturing and project management.

Ilarionas is expected to begin commercial operation in 2011 on the Aliakmon River in the Imathia Region of Central Macedonia Province. The project is expected to generate more than 413 gigawatt-hours per year.
