Hindustan to build dam for India’s 600-MW Loharinag Pala

India’s NTPC Ltd. has awarded a contract to Hindustan Construction Co. Ltd. (HCC) to build a dam and desilting chamber for the 600-MW Loharinag Pala hydroelectric project on the Bhagirathi River in Uttaranchal State.

The contract, valued at 2.46 billion rupees (US$53.55 million), includes construction of a 73-meter-long barrage, head regulator, river training works, and an underground desilting chamber as part of the headrace tunnel. The work is to require 40 months.

Loharinag Pala is to include four 153.1-MW vertical Pelton turbines-generators in an underground powerhouse.
