India seeks reservoir management system

Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) invites expressions of interest by July 10 for development of a real-time decision support system for operational management of BBMB’s reservoirs in India.

BBMB is carrying out tendering on behalf of the government of India, which received a loan for the program from the World Bank’s International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Work is to include:
o Identifying state-of-the-art equipment and communication systems to measure hydrological and hydro-meteorological parameters, reservoir levels, releases and allocations from dams, and discharges of rivers in the Sutlej and Beas basins;
o Developing methodology for real-time forecasting of snow and rainfall in the basins and estimating corresponding inflows to reservoirs;
o Developing a real-time decision support system for planning and operational management of reservoirs and for regulation of water supplies from BBMB hydropower projects;
o Real-time forecasting of flood inundated areas downstream of dams;
o Storage, retrieval, and processing of decision support system outputs for accessibility in control rooms;
o Installation and testing of the system and operational training.
