International design experts on roller-compacted concrete (RCC) are among the featured speakers at an International RCC Dams Seminar and Study Tour March 18-23 in Atlanta.
Schnabel Engineering is organizing the event in conjunction with the Association of State Dam Safety Officials and participating firms.
Presentations by RCC design experts and contractors from the United States, Spain, Portugal, Australia, and Germany are to take part in the seminar, addressing design, construction, performance, and quality control for RCC dams.
Key to the event are two tours to view RCC placement under way at the 180-foot-tall, 970-foot-long Hickory Log Creek Dam near Canton, Ga. Hickory Log Creek is the tallest RCC dam currently under construction in the United States and the tallest non-federal dam in Georgia.
Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority and the city of Canton recently awarded a $36.5 million contract to Thalle Construction Co., to build the water supply dam, including placement of 230,000 cubic yards of RCC. (HNN 9/6/06) Schnabel Engineering South LLC is project engineer.
Another study tour includes visiting the completed RCC Big Haynes Dam and several RCC overtopping projects along the Yellow River for Gwinnett County, Ga.
