International Hydropower Association seeks board nominations

The International Hydropower Association invites nominations for board members for 2009-2011. The closing date for nominations is June 1.

All candidates must be IHA members. If elected, candidates also must be willing to commit to the shared responsibilities of the board, and to commit to attending the majority of the board’s meetings.

The board governs the association, which has a central office in London and representative offices and affiliated organizations in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australasia, Europe, and the Middle East. The board includes 21 elected members, six other members, and one executive director. The IHA president and as many as six vice presidents are selected from elected board members.

Nominations are due June 1. Board candidates are to be announced June 26 at the IHA Congress in Reykjavik, Iceland. Board elections are scheduled for July 13 to September 7, and election results are to be announced September 11. The first meeting of newly elected board members is planned for October 22-23 in London.

IHA is a non-governmental association of organizations and individuals with members in more than 80 countries. IHA seeks to advance hydropower’s role in meeting the world’s water and energy needs through various initiatives, including sustainability, markets and investment, and climate change. IHA also works with agencies of the United Nations addressing water, energy, and climate change. Its membership is open to all those involved in hydropower.
