Latin bank seeks study of Honduras’ 8-MW Puringla y Sazagua

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) seeks bids from Spanish firms for a feasibility study and final design of the 8-MW Puringla y Sazagua hydroelectric project in Honduras. Expressions of interest are due February 14, followed by bids March 11.

On behalf of Honduran utility Compania Electrica Centroamericana S.A. de C.V., CABEI issued the solicitation to Spanish companies. Construction of Puringla y Sazagua in Honduras’ La Paz Department is being financed in cooperation with Spanish consulting fund Fondo Espanol Consultoria.

CABEI said its objectives are to supply electricity demand from hydroelectric generation, contributing directly to Honduras’ energy development and increasing coverage of electricity in isolated systems of national utility Empresa Nacional de Energia Electrica (ENEE). It said it also seeks to reduce the purchase of fossil fuels and to provide environmental benefits by reducing emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases.
