Canadian utility Manitoba Hydro has named Darren Rainkie as interim president and CEO, effective this past week.

Rainkie joined Manitoba Hydro following the provincial utility’s acquisition of Centra in 1999, after which he was named Manager of Regulatory Affairs and treasurer in 2006. He was subsequently named Corporate Controller in 2008, and most recently, Chief Financial Officer and Vice-President of Finance and Regulatory Affairs in 2013.

“With over 21 years of experience at Manitoba Hydro, and prior to that Centra Gas, I am confident Darren will provide the guidance and leadership necessary as we continue to renew and expand our system to meet the needs of our customers now and into the future,” Manitoba Hydro board chair Bill Fraser said.

Rainkie takes over for former president and CEO Scott Thomson, who announced his plan to step down as Manitoba Hydro’s president and CEO in July.
