New York Power Authority awarded a $200,000 contract in May to Gomez and Sullivan Engineers to perform an independent inspection of dams in its 11.8-MW Crescent and 11.8-MW Vischer Ferry hydroelectric projects on the Mohawk River, northwest of Albany.
NYPA said Gomez and Sullivan submitted the low bid in response to a request for proposals for a five-year contract. The project dams were built in 1912 as part of the Erie Canal.
Crescent (No. 4678) and Vischer Ferry (No. 4679) each has a net dependable capacity of 9.948 MW, NYPA said. They are among five small hydropower projects in various parts of the state operated by NYPA.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission requires independent inspections of licensed hydroelectric dams every five years by FERC-approved consultants.
