National Hydroelectric Power Corp. (NHPC) awarded contracts totaling 1.58 billion rupees (US$36.8 million) to OM Metals Infraprojects Ltd. to supply hydro-mechanical equipment for the 160-MW Teesta Low Dam Stage 4, and 240-MW Uri 2 projects in India.
OM Metals said May 14 it is to design, manufacture, install, and commission equipment at the plants over three years.
160-MW Teesta Low Dam Stage 4
OM Metals received a 990 million rupee (US$23 million) contract for Teesta Low Dam 4, being built on the Teesta River in West Bengal State. (HNN 3/22/07) Work includes intake trash racks, draft tube slide gates, fish ladder slide gates, slide-type trash screen bulkhead gates, pressure shaft liner, submerged spillway radial gates, spillway stoplogs, penstock intake gates and stoplogs, spillway intake gantry crane, hoists, instruments, and remote control system.
India’s Hindustan Construction Co. Ltd. (HCC) received a 3.96 billion rupee (US$88.25 million) contract in 2006 to build Teesta Low Dam 4. Work includes a 511-meter-long concrete gravity dam, spillway, roller-compacted-concrete dam, intake structure, powerhouse, tailrace channel, switchyard, and diversion.
240-MW Uri 2
OM Metals received a 590 million rupee (US$13.7 million) contract for Uri 2, being built on the Jhelum River in Jammu &Kashmir State. (HNN 2/9/07) Work includes head regulator trash racks and fixed-wheel gates, surge shaft gate, draft tube slide gates, hinged-type adit inspection gates, pressure shaft liners, intake trash rack, submerged spillway radial gates with hydraulic hoists, spillway stoplogs, gantry crane, flushing tunnel slide gate, overhead traveling crane, and automatic reservoir monitoring and control.
Alstom received a 4.08 billion rupee (US$91.3 million) contract earlier this year to supply four 60-MW turbines, generators, and other equipment for Uri 2. HCC received a contract in 2005 for major civil works including diversion tunnel, concrete gravity dam, headrace tunnel, surge shaft, pressure shaft, powerhouse, and tailrace tunnel.
