Nicaragua offers 12 projects of 150 MW

Nicaraguan officials scheduled an August 3 presentation in Managua of 12 hydroelectric projects it is offering for development.

An official of Nicaragua’s Comision Nacional de Energia (CNE) told Business News Americas the government is accepting expressions of interest from the private sector to develop the sites, which total 150 MW. The projects are at different stages of development including design, pre-feasibility, and feasibility, the official said.

CNE planned to highlight the projects in a presentation in Managua to be attended by officials of Nicaraguan regulator Instituto Nicaraguense de Energia (INE), the Inter-American Development Bank, Central American Bank for Economic Integration, and the World Bank.

The official said interested developers should contact INE for necessary forms to carry out remaining studies. If the projects proceed, the developers then would have to secure environmental and water use permits and generation licenses.
