Nicaragua seeks bids to study, prepare 36.5-MW El Barro project

On behalf of the Nicaragua government, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) seeks bids to prepare the 36.5-MW El Barro hydroelectric project for construction bidding. Expressions of interest are due April 5, followed by bids May 15.

With funding from the government of Spain, the solicitation is open only to Spanish companies.

El Barro would be built on the lower section of the Viejo River downstream from the 50-MW Santa Barbara project. (HNN 12/12/07)

CABEI seeks bidders to perform a feasibility study and final design and to draft solicitation documents for construction of the project. The contract is expected to cost US$508,816.

Studies are to include topographical surveys; geological and geotechnical investigations; a hydrologic study; technical, economic, and financial evaluation; optimization of design alternatives; evaluation of environmental effects and proposed sale of carbon emissions reduction certificates. Work also includes drafting final design and construction plans, proposing a public-private development association, and drafting of final solicitation documents.

Expressions of interest are due April 5 by e-mail to the Unidad de Proyectos de Preinversion of the Banco Centroamericano de Integracion Economica at licitacionesupp@bcie.org. A site visit is scheduled April 24, followed by a pre-bid meeting April 25 at the offices of national utility Empresa Nicaraguense de Electricidad.

Pre-qualified firms will be invited to submit bids by 4:30 p.m., Honduras time, May 15.
