PacifiCorp units offer funds to renewables including hydro, wave

Two operating units of Portland-based utility PacifiCorp invite renewable energy project sponsors to apply for funding assistance under the Blue Sky Fund Award program.

Using revenues from customers who buy 100-kilowatt-hour blocks of renewable energy, PacifiCorp units Pacific Power and Rocky Mountain Power seek proposals by May 1. Eligible technologies include low-impact hydropower, wave, wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal projects.

Portland-based Pacific Power invites projects in Oregon, Washington, and northern California, while Salt Lake City-based Rocky Mountain Power invites projects in Utah, Wyoming, and southeastern Idaho.

Funding amounts vary from year to year based on revenues from the Blue Sky Block renewable energy sales to customers. The utilities said the programs already have helped support small and medium-sized renewables projects that might not otherwise be viable.
