Poyry unit to work on U.K.’s 100-MW Glendoe

Poyry’s Energy Business Group has received a contract to provide detail design and construction support to the 100-MW Glendoe hydroelectric project being built on Scotland’s Loch Ness in the United Kingdom.

The Swiss-based unit of Finland’s Poyry said the contract from turnkey contractor Hochtief Glendoe Joint Venture was valued at 5 million euros (US$6.4 million).

Scottish and Southern Energy Plc is developing Glendoe, Scotland’s first conventional large-scale hydro plant in 40 years. It includes a 35-meter-tall, 1,000-meter-long dam, an 18-kilometer tunnel network, and an underground powerhouse.

Poyry previously provided consultancy services to Germany’s Hochtief AG during the tendering phase of the project.
