Reclamation chooses Pike as senior advisor and dam safety officer

Robert Pike

The U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation has selected Robert “Bob” Pike, P.E., to be senior advisor – design, estimating and construction oversight and dam safety officer.

This position provides oversight of design, estimating and construction activities as they are being formulated and prepared to ensure that executive-level management decisions and products are sound at the project and corporate levels. Pike also will serve as Reclamation’s dam safety officer, providing broad program guidance, conducting reviews and performing quality assurance of Reclamation’s Dam Safety Program.

“The depth of knowledge Bob brings to this critical leadership position will be an invaluable asset as we support Reclamation’s mission,” said Chris Beardsley, director of policy and programs. “His wealth of knowledge and wise counsel will ensure our dams do not present unreasonable risks to people, property, or the environment.”

Pike joined Reclamation in 1982 and has served in several positions, including as a civil engineer, hydraulic engineer, dam safety coordinator and program manager. Prior to this selection, he served as the chief of the Dam Safety Office in Denver, Colo., since 2019.

“I am honored to fill this senior advisor position and look forward to supporting Reclamation and our customers as I embark on this new assignment,” said Pike.

Pike is a registered professional engineer in Colorado. He is a member of the Association of State Dam Safety Officials, U.S. Society on Dams, and Centre for Energy Advancement through Technology Innovation.

Reclamation is a federal agency under Interior and is the largest wholesale water supplier and second largest producer of hydroelectric power in the U.S.
