Replacement runner delivered to Czechs’ 450-MW Dalesice

Czech equipment manufacturer CKD Blansko Holding delivered a replacement runner May 23 to the 450-MW Dalesice pumped-storage project on the Jilhava River in the Czech Republic.

The upgraded nine-bladed Francis runner is 6,000 millimeters in diameter and weighs 80 tons, CKD Blansko said. It is expected to perform with higher efficiency and allow Czech utility CEZ to generate considerably more power, the supplier said.

Delivery of the runner is part of a 4.2 million euro (US$5.7 million) contract for upgrading and overhaul of Unit 2 of the four-unit pumped-storage project.

CKD Blansko Holding is carrying out a similar runner upgrade project for two units of the 800-MW Zarnowiec pumped-storage project in Poland. The company received a US$7.5 million contact for that work from project operator Elektrownie Szczytowo-Pompowe S.A. in 2006. (HNN 11/29/06)
