Romania awards rehab contract for 510-MW Lotru-Ciunget

Romanian utility Hidroelectrica S.A. has awarded a contract to Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation for rehabilitation of the 510-MW Lotru-Ciunget hydropower plant on Romania’s Lotru River.

Voith Siemens’ Austrian unit, in association with its German unit, won a contract worth 77.8 million euros (US$101.7 million) to rehabilitate three turbine-generators and auxiliary equipment.

The contract, to require 48 months, also includes rehabilitation of power plant general installations and high- and medium-voltage switchyards, plus a new command and control system for the power station control room.

The World Bank approved a 66 million euro (US$84.3 million) loan for the project in the first phase of a US$1 billion loan facility also approved by the World Bank to integrate national energy systems of southeastern Europe into the European Union energy market. (HNN 5/22/06)
