Rupay to lead Canadian hydropower and dam operations for MWH

David Rupay has joined MWH (now part of Stantec) as client service manager – Canada, leading the company’s Canadian hydropower and dam operations.

He will focus on strengthening key client relationships and business development, with a special focus on western Canada.

Rupay has more than 35 years of experience in renewable energy projects

He will be based in the company’s Vancouver, British Columbia office.

“David’s leadership and engineering prowess will play an important role in our efforts to deliver renewable, reliable energy solutions that meet the needs of Canada’s growing economy,” said Mario Finis, leader of the global waterpower and dams group for MWH. “Canada has proven itself to be a global leader in renewable energy and has had a steadfast commitment to the advancement of hydropower.”

Before joining MWH, Rupay served as senior project manager in the water power business unit at Hatch. In this role, he undertook international hydropower assignments in Iran, India, China, Thailand, Africa and South America, as well as working on both greenfield and rehabilitation projects in Canada.

Rupay has a bachelor degree in civil engineering, a master’s degree in construction management and an MBA.

MWH merged with Stantec in May 2016 and has nearly 200 years of waterpower and dam experience, including feasibility studies, detailed design and construction management. Stantec has about 22,000 employees working in more than 400 locations across six continents.
