Rwanda seeks construction, equipment for three small hydros

Rwanda’s Ministry of Infrastructure seeks bids in several solicitations to build and equip three small hydroelectric projects at Keya in Rwanda’s Western Province. Bids for construction are due October 24, with bids for equipment due October 31.

The three plants are 640-kW Nkora, 300-kW Cyimbili, and the two-unit 2.27-MW Keya.

Construction

A single solicitation was issued for all three plants, for construction works, and supply and installation of hydro-mechanical works. A mandatory site visit is scheduled September 24. Bids are due by 9 a.m. October 24.

Work for each plant includes weir and intake, headrace canal, silt basin, security spillway, channel and connected structures, forebay and penstock, power plant, and access road. Included are concrete and stone masonry, gates, trashrack, penstock, metalwork, and lighting. The work is to require 15 months.

Generating equipment

Rwanda seeks turbine-generators and other equipment in two solicitations, one for Nkora and Cyimbili and the other for Keya. Bids for both solicitations are due by 9 a.m. October 31.

One solicitation, for both Nkora and Cyimbili, includes manufacturing, installation, and commissioning equipment for each plant including a compact vertical-axis Pelton turbine for each plant, 640 kW for Nkora and 300 kW for Cyimbili. Other equipment for each plant includes an overhaul valve, turbine break pressure bypass, generator, transformer, controls, and monitoring.

Other equipment includes overhaul valves, dismantling collars, security gates, transformers, controls, and monitoring.

Rwanda also seeks construction of 30-kilovolt electrical lines and low-voltage networks in the Western Province, including links to Nkora, Cyimbili, and Keya. A mandatory site visit is scheduled September 30. Bids are due by 9 a.m. October 31.
