Semcon to renovate two hydroelectric stations for Fortum

KARLSTAD, Sweden 11/18/11 (PennWell) — Energy company Fortum has selected Semcon to upgrade electrical and control equipment at two of its hydroelectric power stations.

The Landafors and Viksjofors facilities — located on the Ljusnan and Voxnan rivers, respectively — will receive new designs, testing and commissioning of complete control systems. In addition, the company will supply new generator switchgear, low-voltage switchgear, battery systems, magnetizations and remote control equipment.

“The purpose of the renovations at Landafors and Viksjofors hydroelectric power stations is to ensure safe and effective operations in the future,” said Torgny Backlund, area manager for Fortum.

Semcon said it expects to employ a number of electric power and automation engineers in conjunction with the project.

“Work on both projects will start immediately and we’ll be delivering by summer 2012,” said Goran Urby, head of hydro power services for Semcon.
